Horizon is the local Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plan for the state of New Jersey and offers plans ranging from traditional indemnity plans to HMO, POS, PPO, and MSA plans. Horizon also offers dental coverage along with behavioral health through Magellan Behavioral Health. Horizon covers more than 600,000 subscribers across individuals, small employers, and large groups. They offer flexible deductible and coinsurance options as well as various copay structures. After an original consideration to switch to a for-profit status in 2005, Horizon withdrew its consideration, and today remains a non-profit organization.

Recently in 2009, for August 1, 2009 effective dates of coverage for new groups, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield introduced their Horizon Advantage Direct Access Plans (POS Plans with varying deductibles and coinsurance to lower premium 10-30%). They also have the Horizon Advantage PPO platform (PPO plans with varying deductibles and coinsurance to also lower premium) accessing the national Blue Card PPO network. These products are great for groups that have multiple employer locations with employees needing great access nationwide.
