Health Pass is a non-profit founded by the City of New York and the New York Business Group on Health. It comprises multiple health insurance carriers and plan options, and offers coverage to small employers (2-49 employees) and sole proprietors in New York City.
Members of small businesses selecting Health Pass can choose over 30 different medical plan designs from 4 leading health insurers including Emblem Health, and Health Net. Some of the better priced plans currently in 2009 are the Emblem Health H.S.A EPO. With the product you must remain in the Emblem Health Network, as well as meeting an upfront deductible that can be as high as $5800/year/person, though the premium is very low relative to the competition. In theory members save pre-tax dollars monthly to cover the deductible, and many employers are then able to cover the entire premium for the product. HealthNet Outlook POS continues to be a product that members of HealthPass select, though the pricing has not been the best. HealthNet has lowered its pricing for many EPO plan designs.
When you purchase a product through HealthPass, you automatically are able to access Health Advocate which is an advocacy service designed to assist members with things like searching for the best specialist for a particular disease, surgery or diagnosis, getting help with a precertification, or even billing issues.
HealthPass also offers its member groups the ability to enroll in Guardian dental, whether you are looking for a PPO dental or a DMO dental. They also offer services for vision, and life insurance.
Businesses must be located in the 5 boroughs of New York City, as well as Westchester, Orange, Putnam and Dutchess Counties, as well as Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
